HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
Time to celebrate, we're one year old...
Upstarts and Oligarchs is officially one year old! It hardly seems possible but the dates don’t lie... one year ago today I posted my first missive followed in quick succession by a few others to get things off the ground. It seems appropriate however that at precisely 52 weeks old we publish blog number 52!
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the positive response to most of my posts, flabbergasted even at just how popular some of them have been. U&O won’t be winning any awards yet for reader reach that’s for sure but it does seem that most of you actually enjoy some of the nonsense I put up - we’ve even garnered some loyal followers. Thank you for your support!
My very first post on 19th February 2019, aptly titled UPSTARTS AND OLIGARCHS, set the scene for what was to come and promised “meanderings of things that resonate with people of a certain age”.
In the most part, I think I’ve achieved that; delivering nostalgic memories from a 70’s teenager, music stuff that’s important to me and, at times, complete gibberish - some of which I have no idea where it comes from!
So, here’s to another year and who knows where that will take us? As I’ve said before, U&O is a moveable and developing beast so expect more nostalgia, more music stuff and almost certainly more baloney!
Here’s a quick look back at the six most popular posts of the last 12 months.
A controversial look at the much maligned tribute industry.
Waxing lyrical about Morrissey’s California Son.
My lifelong love of Marc Bolan and T.Rex and the part it plays in my life today.
Questioning the efficacy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A frank and open overview of my battle with depression.
A mischievous April Fools tale that actually had people questioning its validity.
With the exception of my post on depression the favourites certainly seem to be music related so perhaps that’s the direction the U&O will head in. Who knows and quite frankly who cares? It’s a little bit of self-indulgent fun that, on most occasions, doesn’t take itself too seriously. Thanks for giving up your valuable time to read this tosh, I really appreciate it.
