This one goes up to eleven

Just a short blog today to pay my respects to Dr Jim Marshall OBE who passed away on 5th April 2012. The man behind the iconic Marshall amps; without him the rock and roll landscape would be a very different place.

I had the pleasure and absolute privilege of being a part of the ‘Marshall family’ for a number of years whilst playing bass with the Chris George Band from 2003 – 2011. We were the official Marshall Amplification demonstration band playing guitar shows and roadshows across the UK and beyond. During that period I got to spend a lot of time with Jim who was the kindest, funniest and most generous man.

Through Jim I also had the opportunity to play with the likes of Bernie Marsden and Doug Aldrich (from Whitesnake), Phil Campbell (from Motorhead), Paul Gilbert (from Mr Big) and also got to ‘hang’ with icons such as Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Kerry King (Slayer) and Yngwie Malmsteem. I even got to spend a New Years Eve at Jim’s House hanging with the late, great, Bert Weedon. Amazing times indeed!

Today I’m proud to be a user of the fabulous Marshall VBA bass rig - a true arse-kicking, trouser flapping set-up that defines my sound week in, week out.

Jim, you really were the Father of Loud. God bless you x.
